Further details

It is said that being in the presence of Snæfellsjökull Glacier fills you with energy and that people feel great when they’re in the surrounding area. Following hotel pickup in Reykjavík, you’ll embark on a 2-hour drive towards the peninsula. During the drive, you’ll pass through the Hvalfjörður tunnel and admire the town of Borgarnes and the dramatic Eldborg crater.

Sink your toes into the black sands of a volcanic beach before stopping at the magnificent Snæfellsjökull glacier, the setting of Jules Verne’s classic novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. From Arnarstapi, you’ll walk in the vicinity of the glacier and admire scenery typified by rock formations and curvaceous coastline. Travellers can opt to take a bus to Hellnar, the end point of the walk.

After an Icelandic lunch of fish soup, you’ll continue to Skipalónssandur beach, which is littered with historical shipwrecks, and the quaint town of Grundarfjörður, home to the mighty Mt. Kirkjufell. Disembark to absorb spectacular views of the Berserkjahraun lava fields and finally, capture photographs of the otherworldly basalt columns at Gerðuberg.

Our reviews for the tour

  • Just returned from nearly 2 weeks in Iceland with my 17-year-old grandson. I used Hopferdir for so many things, from airport transfers to private tours around Iceland. This company is always open and is always ready to see that you see their Iceland in the best way possible. I would recommend them for any travel need in Iceland. Nothing like having a local show off their wonderful country! And a plus is having WiFi in all of their vehicles.

  • We took about 3 tours with Hopferdir. Guðjón, our driver came guide for all tour was just fantastic. The 2 private tours were the Snaefellsness Peninsula and Blue Lagoon/Reykjanes Peninsula. Guðjón was very knowledgeable about the area and we learnt a lot about the places, Icelandic culture, people, politics, history etc. from him. He was very considerate and made sure that my parents were comfortable on the long drives.
